So, you have this packet of meat in your fridge but you don’t know what to do with it. And you can’t find a recipe that includes this type of meat well, makes your mouth water and is quite easy to make in that half or three quarters of an hour that you have. Sometimes we are not looking for the recipe for a complete meal, sometimes we also need something that we can easily combine with what we have.
The side dishes allow you to be very creative and flexible with your meals. Vegetable garnishes can go with rice, potatoes or pasta, with or without meat. They are a great asset when you plan your meals according to the simple formula: vegetables + starchy foods + high protein foods. In other words: vegetables, rice and meat. Golden vegetables, potatoes and fish. Golden vegetables, pasta and minced meat. Using this simple formula and using easy ingredients that require little preparation can have you whipping up a tasty and healthy meal in about half an hour.
Here are two simple side dishes – the first is a healthier alternative to boiling potatoes so you can enjoy potatoes with your fast food, too. The second recipe is a vegetable side dish that will not even take you 10 minutes to prepare.
Quick Baked Potatoes
The quickest way to cook potatoes is to boil them in plenty of salty water. But sadly, this is not the healthiest way. In fact, many water-soluble nutrients are extracted from potatoes and put into the water, especially if you boil them too long.
A better way to do without water and that only requires a little (healthy) fat is to bake them in the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 230 ° C.
- Wash the potatoes well. Don’t peel them. Cut them into very thin slices. You can use a grater for this.
- Place parchment paper on a baking tray and lightly brush it with olive oil.
- Spread the potato slices on the baking sheet, sprinkle with a little olive oil and your favorite spices (eg thyme, cayenne pepper, rosemary). Bake them for about 20-25 minutes until tender. Flip once after 10 minutes to crisp on both sides.
- Serve immediately.
Super fast chili vegetables
Do you like it spicy? Here’s a spicy side dish made from canned corn, peas, and chili that you’ll love. It’s super fast, making it a perfect recipe for days when you only have a few moments to cook. It’s also great if your meat requires a little more preparation. At least you don’t have to worry much about vegetables.
Ingredients:
- 1 can of corn
- 1 can of peas
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 teaspoon crushed chili
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
Steps:
- Heat 2 tbsp. oil in a frying pan.
- Add the garlic, chili and cumin and fry for half a minute, stirring well.
- Then add the corn, mix well and fry it for a few minutes until hot.
For 4 people.
There are many other recipes that you can create with these two in mind. Instead of potatoes, you can bake sweet potatoes, carrots, or walnuts. The marrow and pepper would go even faster. The great thing about baking your vegetables in the oven is that you will need less fat. As for chili vegetables, you can replace corn and peas with any other canned vegetables. Try different spices, leave the garlic and add a minced onion instead. Be creative! Just make sure you don’t use processed veggies as they contain a lot of unhealthy additives and aren’t that great to fry either.
