Experts recommend, and most people with curly hair know, that air-drying is the best way to prevent frizz if you have naturally curly hair. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always work in real life, as air-drying can take several hours, even for my fine hair. On those days that I need to get out before my hair completely dries itself, I use the blow dryer with a diffuser. This usually amplifies my curls into frizz that even additional hair products can’t control again. That’s when I know it’s time to get out my curling iron and get to work.
If you have an extra five to ten minutes, my stylist shared with me the following steps to eliminate frizz and give my hair a very polished look (and it works!). All you need is a curling iron and some hair clips.
1. Divide your hair into at least four sections around your head. Pull the hair on top of your head into one large section. Secure each section with hair clips.
2. Begin with section one (subdivide if the section is quite thick) and curl your hair with a curling iron in alternate directions for each section. First, make the curl go towards the back of your head. Then do the forward curl. Continue through each section until you get around your head. Spray with a bit of hairspray if you like.
3. Then divide the top into three sections. Curl each section back and secure with a clip. Let rest for 15 seconds. Again, spray with hairspray if desired. Disengage and loosely drop.
Run a wide-tooth comb through your hair. Your style will be loose, polished, and best of all, frizzies will be gone.
