Does the open road call you? Do you love the thrill of driving to a new place? Road trip blood runs through your veins! There are so many great places that require a road trip, and many are equally exciting to get to. Driving to a cool state park or theme park with tons of roller coasters is so much fun that you can’t bear to take the shortest plane there.
No matter where you live in the United States, visiting Texas at some point in your life is a must. While most city dwellers in Texas would be offended if you asked them if they ride horses to work, there are some places where there are real farms and ranches in the middle of nowhere. Big cities that you should definitely visit are Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Corpus Christi. If you are looking to hit the beach, try Galveston and Corpus Christi. However, keep in mind that Galveston’s water isn’t the clear blue you might be longing for, and Corpus Christi beaches tend to have jellyfish washed ashore by waves on a regular basis.
Taking a family trip to a state park is also a great road trip to plan. The great thing about state parks is that each state has at least two, and several states have must-see parks that you shouldn’t miss. For example, in Connecticut you have the option of going to Dinosaur State Park and Gillette Castle State Park. Taking a trip to Oklahoma means you can go to Robbers Cave State Park and Quartz Mountain State Park. Visiting a state park on a family road trip can be a great adventure for everyone.
If you want to enjoy a road trip to Colorado, you should consider going to the Million Dollar Highway near Telluride. The area is incredibly historic and it looks like they pulled the buildings straight out of the old Wild West. The million dollar highway connects some old mining towns and makes you feel like you are in the 1870s.
Going northeast in the winter may not seem like a great idea with all the snow and dangerous icy roads, but visiting Maine in the early summer and fall would certainly make for a nice vacation. In particular, heading to Route 1 and taking a comprehensive tour of Maine makes for an excellent photograph-worthy road trip.
Roller coaster fans should head to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Point has the largest collection of various types of roller coasters in the United States, if not the world. From the corkscrew to the Mantis to the Mean Streak, thrilling roller coasters abound. Best of all, Cedar Point is a great family trip because there are also “smooth thrill” roller coasters like the Jr. Gemini for younger roller coaster lovers.
Wherever you go, make sure you have good car insurance coverage, because you don’t want to take a road trip and end up on the side of the road without any protection.
